experimental research

Star guitar

From the onset of Star Guitar you could quite easily believe it is the simple recording of a train journey. A short time into the production however you quickly realise how closely the visuals match the audio. This was one of the most stimulating and inspirational experimental videos i watched due to the simplicity of the idea but the profound effect it produced. Looking into how they produced the piece i discovered it was first plotted on paper in a musical format of loops of 4 rather than a traditional video style of planning. This visual map was then matched to the audio with each visual object matching one audio element eg. a tree represents a snare drum. This visual map grew larger as more and more of the song was analysed before a scaled down version of the production was produced in a school playground involving oranges, cassettes and trainers in place of pillions and tunnels. I love the originality of the piece and respect the meticulous planning, with almost all areas controlled to a high degree of precision. I wish my group experimental project had taken a similar approach to produce an original piece, which was highly experimental, rather than a film which relies heavily on a narrative structure.
